Toyota bZ3X vs. BYD Atto 3: Which Compact Electric SUV Dominates China Parallel Export?
Two compact electric SUVs, two very different export stories. We compare the Toyota bZ3X and BYD Atto 3 on size, battery, charging, cabin tech and driver assistance, and say which one fits which overseas buyer.
By EVtoU

Neither car wins outright. The Toyota bZ3X is the stronger parallel-export pick when your buyers want a Toyota badge, a longer wheelbase and factory LiDAR trims, while the BYD Atto 3 is easier where BYD already sells officially, because local buyers expect its English interface, CCS2 charging and dealer support. The right choice depends on your market, not on a spec sheet alone.
This guide is written for dealers, fleet buyers and trading companies sourcing from China. We compare the Chinese-market bZ3X, built by GAC Toyota, with the Atto 3 as BYD publishes it for export markets (the same car is sold in China as the Yuan Plus). How do the Toyota bZ3X and BYD Atto 3 compare on paper?
The bZ3X is the bigger car: 145 mm longer with a 45 mm longer wheelbase, which favours rear-seat space. The Atto 3 counters with a multi-link rear axle, a 15.6-inch rotating screen and a published Euro NCAP five-star result. The table below uses manufacturer figures only.
| Specification | Toyota bZ3X (China config, 2026) | BYD Atto 3 (BYD export spec) |

Which one is easier to sell through parallel export?
The bZ3X is usually the easier parallel-export story because Toyota developed it for the Chinese market, so in most destination markets there is no authorised local dealer selling the same model (confirm this for your country). The Atto 3 is sold officially in many markets, which helps buyer awareness but means a China-sourced car competes head-on with a locally supported one.
Toyota itself describes the bZ3X as a car developed for China. Its launch announcement is clear about the target buyer:
“This family-oriented SUV-type BEV offers a large interior space based on the concept of providing a mobile "Cozy Home."”
That family focus matters in markets where the Toyota name already sells cars on trust, such as the Gulf, Central Asia and West Africa. See our notes for the UAE, Kazakhstan and Ghana for local import points.
Where the Atto 3 has the edge
- Local familiarity: where BYD has official dealers, buyers already know the car, and parts and service networks exist.
- Right-hand drive: BYD builds RHD Atto 3s for some markets. The bZ3X is LHD only, which rules it out for RHD countries.
- Charging plug: export-spec Atto 3s use CCS2 and Type 2. A China-market bZ3X uses GB/T, so check local chargers or plan an adapter strategy.
What about cabin tech, language and driver assistance?
Both China-market cars ship with Chinese-language software, and that is the single biggest after-sale question for any parallel-export EV. The bZ3X runs a Snapdragon 8155 head unit with 4G, OTA updates, Huawei HiCar and Carlink, plus Apple CarPlay on the 2026 model year. Navigation uses Amap, which covers China. BYD's export-spec Atto 3 comes with English menus and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but a Yuan Plus sourced inside China does not automatically get that software.
On driver assistance, the bZ3X range is wider. The 430 Air has no adaptive cruise, the Air+, Pro and Pro+ get the Toyota Pilot L2 suite (adaptive cruise, lane centring, automatic emergency braking), and the 2026 LiDAR trims add a Momenta 6.0 system with a Hesai ATX LiDAR, 11 cameras and 3 radars. Navigate-on-assist functions are built around Chinese maps and should not be expected to work abroad. Which bZ3X trims compete most directly with the Atto 3?
The 520 Pro is the closest match: a 58.37 kWh battery against the Atto 3's 60.5 kWh, a full L2 package and a similar equipment level. Buyers who want a lower entry point can look at the 430 Air+, while fleet and premium dealers often prefer the 520 Pro LiDAR for its Yamaha 11-speaker audio and the 1875 mm body.

So which compact EV should you order?
Choose by market conditions first, then by spec. This short rule of thumb covers most of the inquiries we receive:
- Order the Toyota bZ3X if your market drives on the right, values the Toyota name, has no official bZ3X sales, and your buyers care about rear-seat space and CLTC range options up to 610 km.
- Order the BYD Atto 3 if your market drives on the left (you need RHD), BYD already has official support locally, or buyers insist on CCS2 and English software out of the box.
- Mix both in one container if you are testing demand. EVtoU accepts mixed models in one order with an MOQ of one unit, and helps optimise container loading.
Before ordering any China-market EV, confirm with your customs broker the import rules, homologation and charging requirements in your country. Our export process page explains each step from inquiry to shipping.
EVtoU is an independent China-based exporter, not an authorised Toyota or BYD distributor. We source through domestic vehicle channels and long-term partner suppliers, provide real vehicle photos and photo or video confirmation at each milestone, and arrange shipment of in-stock vehicles within 10 working days after payment.
